N E Victoria Silo Art

After our Victorian high country bike ride, we drove to Echuca along the North East Victoria Silo Art Trail. We were coming here in 2021 but Victoria went into lockdown so we had to leave in a hurry.

Benalla

Street artist, Guido Van Helten, painted this remote water tank with a backdrop of lifeless river red gums 20 kilometres north-east of Benalla. He featured members of the local Country Fire Authority [CFA) brigades on the tank.

Goorambat

In Goorambat (pop 269) there’s four works of public art by Melbourne street artist Jimmy DVate and one by Matt Adnate.

Tungamah

Sobrane Simcock was the first Australian female street artist to participate in the silo project, painting dancing Brolgas and a Kookaburra onto the Tungamah Silos.

Shepparton to Echuca

Aboriginal history and culture within the Greater Shepparton region is a perfect theme for a street art project. Two caught our eye.

Colbinabbin

In 2020, local artist Tim Bowtell incorporated all aspects of Colbinabbin history, into one incredible masterpiece. Painting took 12 weeks and used 70 x 400ml Spray Paint Cans & 300 Litres Wattyl Paints.

Rochester

A concrete silo, 22 metres tall, was built in 1941. A steel annex, 18 metres tall, was added in 1954. The silos and the surrounding land are no longer used for commercial purposes.

Artist Jimmy Dvate featured local endemically threatened species on the silos.

We had a few hours after our Murray River cruise so we went to Kyabram, about 30 mintes from Echuca to see the painted water tank.

Jimmy Dvate painted the Kyabram Water Tank Art in March 2021, celebrating the wetlands’ natural beauty.
